About ShopAbout
Smart shared lists for every shop · Tassie Creations
ShopAbout is a shopping list that does the thinking for you. Share lists with the people you shop for, for the supermarket, the butcher, the chemist and the hardware store, and let AI handle the fiddly parts: turning recipes into a shopping list, putting everything in aisle order, and reading the receipt.
What the AI does for you
- Recipe to list in seconds. Paste a recipe, or take a photo of a cookbook page. ShopAbout reads it and turns it into things to buy in amounts you'd actually buy: "2 tbsp butter" becomes 1 butter, "400 ml coconut milk" becomes 1 can. It leaves out what most kitchens already have, tells you what's already on the list, and you choose what to add.
- Your list in aisle order, by itself. Type "coconut milk" and it goes under Pantry; "bok choy" under Vegetables. Common things are sorted on your phone straight away; anything unusual is worked out by AI. So the list follows the shop, and you walk it once instead of doubling back.
- Your own AI assistant can do your shopping admin. Connect Claude, ChatGPT or another assistant, and ask it to "add what I need for this week's dinners", "is there milk on the list?" or "move the meat to the butcher". It works on your lists, and only yours. How to connect one.
- Snap the receipt, and it's all filled in. Take a photo of the receipt, or attach or paste it, and ShopAbout reads it and matches it to what's in that shop's cart: prices and weights go in where you didn't enter them, things you bought that weren't on the list are added (so they're there to buy again next time), and short receipt names like "BNNA CAVNDSH" become "Bananas". Your own AI assistant can do the same. It records what you were actually charged beside what you entered in the shop. ShopAbout flags anything that differs by more than you've chosen: bananas weighed heavier than you thought, a price that isn't what the shelf said, something charged that you didn't buy. You can take it back to the store while it's fresh.
- Specials remembered as specials. "Any 2 for $4.70" is kept as a deal, with the usual price beside it, so next week ShopAbout still knows Coke is normally $4.70, and your price history doesn't think prices fell.
And the everyday things, done well
- Shop together. Two people in the same shop fill one cart, each seeing what the other has picked up, live.
- Every shop on one list. Tag things for a shop and see just that shop's items while you're there; nothing else is forgotten, just hidden for now.
- Prices when you want them, never required. Add a price in the shop or don't; see what things cost over time and where they're cheapest.
- Works with no signal. Changes made in the back of the shop sync when you're out.
- Share by invitation only. A list is seen only by the people its owner invites.
AI that respects your privacy
The AI features are off until you turn them on. When they're on, only what's needed is sent: an item's name to sort it, or a recipe or receipt you chose to read (with the names of what's in that shop's cart, to match a receipt), never your name or email. It goes to Anthropic's Claude, which doesn't use it to train its models. Your assistant only sees your lists while you have it connected, and you can disconnect it at any time. No ads, no tracking, no analytics. Read the privacy policy.
Why it's a subscription
ShopAbout costs us money to run, every day, and we'd rather charge you a small, honest amount than show you ads or sell what we learn about you. We do neither.
- The AI isn't free. Every receipt or recipe ShopAbout reads is sent to Anthropic's Claude, and we pay for each one. Sorting new items into sections costs a little too.
- Neither is the server. Your lists, shared carts, photos and history live on a server in Sydney that's backed up, kept secure and running all day, so your list is there and up to date on every phone.
- Two plans, so you only pay for what you use. Both have everything in ShopAbout; they differ only in how many AI scans you get each month, where a scan is one receipt or recipe read. Your scans start again on the same day each month, and the app shows what's left. Need more in a busy month? Buy another 10, and any you don't use carry over. Start with a 7-day free trial.
Product information
When you scan a product, ShopAbout looks it up in its own shared catalogue, built up by ShopAbout users' scans, and in Open Food Facts, a free, open database of food products made by its contributors and available under the Open Database License. Thanks, Open Food Facts.
